Front Hub Greasing – Service
After much use, the grease in the hub melts, especially the original grease which is intended for European temperatures. Other times, our fine dust gets in the hubs and mixes with the grease, either eating up the bearings OR making the hub tight. There are other times that people for lack of knowledge or information, spray penetrant oils like WD40 and the like, these in turn melt the grease and leave the bearings rubbing rough. Whatever the case may be, there is a need to clean the hubs and put fresh grease.
If the issue is caught early, there is no need to change bearings, but otherwise, there may be a need to replace the bearings.
We use special grease which is very tolerant to water and high temperatures. So in most cases, after our work, the bike may perform better.
Unfortunately, if your bike has hubs with sealed bearings, they may need to be replaced, since sealed bearings are not generally serviceable.
