Derailleur / Shifter housing is as important as shifter cable. Most often we see bikes having “brake” housing used for shifter housing and gears just don’t work well. Obviously, if there are two different things manufactured, they must serve different purposes.
So for the best gear shifting experience, use shifter cable housing.
